Christmas – A Season of Peace
Christmas – A Season of Peace
The angels proclaimed in Luke 2:14, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, goodwill toward men,” announcing Jesus’ birth to shepherds in the night.
The angels glorified God and declared peace and goodwill towards humanity. As we see conflict and chaos in the world around us, we may wonder about this promise of peace. The truth is, that humanity is at odds with God and each other. While many strive for peace, ultimate peace is often seen as beyond human ability, requiring divine intervention.
The important thing to know is that Jesus, also known as the “Prince of Peace” has made a way for peace between humanity and God through His sacrifice on the cross. Jesus brings inner peace to us when we make peace with God. The way of peace is to turn away from our sin and put our trust in Jesus who came to earth, died and rose again for us. As we earnestly follow Jesus, we can become agents of peace in our circles of influence as we shed conflict-creating qualities like pride, envy, greed etc.
This Christmas season, let us first receive God’s peace that Jesus came to give us, and also strive to be peacemakers in our families, friendships, neighborhoods, workplaces and beyond. “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.” (Matthew 5:9)
