Christmas – A Season of Miracles
Christmas – A Season of Miracles
Luke 1:35 says, “The Holy Sprit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore the child to be born will be called holy-the Son of God.”
The miracle of Christmas starts with an impossible situation – a virgin conceiving a child, through the power of the Holy Spirit. This was no ordinary miracle; it was one that had never happened before and would never happen again. It was unique, divine and one that God orchestrated to fulfill His plan for humanity.
Mary’s response to this extraordinary news gives insight into the essential elements of receiving a miracle. Despite her initial confusion and questions, she responded with both humility and faith, saying, “I am the Lord’s servant. May your word to me be fulfilled.” She first acknowledges her position as a servant. Mary’s humility in submitting herself as a vessel for God’s purposes is crucial to the miracle. Then, through her declaration, “May your word be fulfilled,” she demonstrated her faith in God’s promise. When we humble ourselves before God and trust in His promises, we make room for His miraculous powers to work in our lives.
What makes a miracle possible? God’s divine will and timing are both important to witness a miracle. Just as the birth of Jesus was prophesied centuries before it happened, God’s miracle in our lives are often part of God’s greater plan and happen in His perfect time. To see a miracle there is also the willingness from our side to believe and receive. Mary’s belief wasn’t blind – it was rooted in her understanding of God’s character and His faithfulness.
Perhaps today we’re holding onto promises God gave us, maybe even long ago. Maybe we’re facing impossible situations – a broken relationship that needs healing, a medical report that looks hopeless, or dreams and hopes that seem too far out of reach. Let us not cease in trusting God. The God who performed the miracle of the virgin birth is still performing miracles today. “The things which are impossible with men are possible with God.” (Luke 18:27)
