Parenting comes with its fair share of joys and heartache. God’s word offers us valuable guidance for this journey!

Along with the awesome privilege of being a parent, God has given us a clear responsibility of training our children. As children constantly receive inputs from the world, our voice of instruction is meant to offer that clear direction and purpose for their lives. And the reward…even if they don’t get it now, they will as they get mature!

There are so many ways in which we as parents end up provoking our children – being overly demanding, overly corrective, seemingly uncaring , comparing, being unreasonable and the list goes on. It’s only the grace of God that can help us stay positive in our parenting so our children stay encouraged and reach the full potential that God has for them.

God’s plan for children is to obey their parents by following their guidance and instructions. For adult children who may no longer be under the direct authority of parents, honor maybe through our respect, care and practical support.

Disciplining a child is never an easy task, but it must be done, if we are to see the fruit of right living in their lives. Rather than taking out our anger on them, God’s approach of gentleness and grace in the way he disciplines us, is a good model to follow, if we are to see the desired results.

As parents, we have many dreams and aspirations for our kids, but our greatest joy comes as they follow God and his ways each day in their lives.

Not only does our righteous living speak more to our children than our many words, but there is an undeniable blessing that is passed down the generations.

It’s a great blessing to pass on a legacy of significance and value not just to our children, but to their children after that. How can we invest our time, talent and resources today, to make that a reality?
